10-Day Northern Spain Road Trip Itinerary (Costa Verde & Beyond)
- Jan 14
- 4 min read
Northern Spain feels like a different country compared to the Mediterranean coast.
This is not flamencos-and-tapas Spain. Here you’ll find green mountains, Atlantic waves, cider poured from height, fishing villages, cows in pastures, and a deeply local rhythm of life — especially once you leave the cities. Green mountains drop into the Atlantic, cows outnumber beach clubs, and tourism is largely domestic. This is the Costa Verde — Spain’s Atlantic-facing northern coast — stretching across Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country.
This itinerary is based on a real, planned route that proved nearly impossible to book last-minute. Learn from that mistake:
Book accommodations 6–9 months in advance or be prepared to significantly increase your budget.
This region is extremely popular with Spanish travelers and still largely under the radar internationally.

What to Expect on This Road Trip
