Where to Stay in Baqueira-Beret in December: The Best Hotels for Every Skier
Baqueira-Beret in December is Spain at its most alpine. The season usually opens around the Constitution Day long weekend in early December, the Val d'Aran villages light up for Christmas, and by Christmas week the slopes, the restaurants and the hotels are as busy as they get all winter.
That last part matters. Where you stay here shapes the whole trip. Sleep at the foot of the Baqueira 1500 gondola and you walk to the lift with your skis on your shoulder. Sleep down the valley in Vielha and you trade that for lower rates, real town life, and a 15-minute drive every morning.
Here are the best hotels in Baqueira and the Val d'Aran for December, chosen for different travelers and different priorities.
Best Location: MiM Baqueira, Meliá Collection
In a ski town, best location means one thing: how fast you get from your room to the lift. MiM Baqueira wins that outright. It's Baqueira's newest hotel, owned by world-famous footballer Lionel Messi, and it connects to the Baqueira 1500 gondola through an indoor gallery, so on a snowy December morning you walk to the lift without stepping outside in ski boots. Heated ski storage and equipment transport mean your gear is waiting for you instead of the other way around.
The rest holds up too. There are 140 rooms, a mountain spa with a water circuit, steam room and heated pool, family rooms, and a restaurant from Catalan chef Nandu Jubany, which saves you a cold drive for a good dinner. For a Christmas week trip where every minute of daylight on the snow counts, this is the most well-placed hotel on this list.

Best Value: Hotel Vielha Val d'Aran, Affiliated by Meliá
Vielha is the capital of the Val d'Aran and the smartest base if you want to keep costs down without giving up comfort. This 4-star hotel sits in town, so restaurants, bars and shops used by locals are on your doorstep, and Baqueira is roughly a 15-minute drive up the valley.
What makes it real value is what's included. There's a wellness area with a heated pool, hydromassage and saunas, ski storage, and a discount voucher for equipment rental. Family rooms with a sofa bed and a kids' play area on the terrace make it work for families too. You'll need a car (or the ski bus) to reach the lifts, but you'll pay well below slopeside rates, and Christmas evenings in Vielha, with the Parc de Nadau and the ice rink, are a big part of the fun.
Best for Families: Hotel Tuc Blanc
Tuc Blanc is the family pick because of where it sits and how it's run. It's a family-run 3-star at Baqueira 1500, less than 100 meters from the lift, which means small children walk to ski school instead of being carried, crying, through a car park.
Free kids' activities, free ski storage, an indoor pool, sauna and a panoramic jacuzzi round it out. It's not a luxury hotel and doesn't pretend to be, but for a family ski week, location beats marble every time. If it's full for your dates, the 4-star Hotel Montarto is a few steps away in the same village and a strong second choice.
Luxury: Hotel Val de Neu
Val de Neu is Baqueira's classic 5-star address, right in the heart of the resort village. This is the full mountain-luxury experience: a spa with a thermal circuit and an outdoor jacuzzi looking out over the snow, a covered garage (which you will appreciate in a Pyrenees December), ski storage, and a kids' miniclub so parents can actually use that spa.
It's the hotel for a trip where the skiing is only half the point. Long lunches, an afternoon in the hot water as the sun drops behind the peaks, a proper dinner without driving down the mountain. If you're doing one splurge ski week in Spain, this is where to do it.
Most Unique: Parador de Vielha
Paradores are Spain's state-run hotels, usually set in castles, monasteries and historic buildings, and the Parador de Vielha is the mountain version: a modernist building on the hillside above Vielha with views straight across the Val d'Aran. It reopened in late November 2025 after a €3.8 million renovation, timed to the start of the ski season.
You're not slopeside here, so plan on a short drive to Baqueira. What you get instead is the feeling of staying somewhere that belongs to the valley, at a price that's usually well under the 5-star hotels up the mountain. One honest note: the Parador has a renovation closure planned for October and November 2026, so check that it has reopened for your December dates before you book.
