Where to Stay in Teruel and Albarracín: The Best Hotels for Truffles, Dinosaurs and Dark Skies
Teruel is our November pick for Worldschoolers & Families, and it's packed for a province most people skip. November is black truffle season, Dinópolis brings dinosaurs to life, Albarracín is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, and the skies around Javalambre are some of the darkest in Europe.
Your main choice is where to sleep: Albarracín or the city of Teruel, about 40 minutes apart. Albarracín is the more magical base, a pink medieval village on a rock above the river, quiet at night once the day-trippers leave. Teruel city puts you closer to Dinópolis and the Mudéjar towers, with more restaurants and easier parking.
Neither has a true luxury hotel, so here are the four best places to stay, chosen for different travelers and different priorities.
Best Location: Hotel Albarracín
Hotel Albarracín sits in a historic palace right in the heart of the village, so the walls, the cathedral and the winding lanes are all on foot. It also has an outdoor pool for the warmer months.
Staying inside Albarracín is the whole point. Walk the walls at sunset, eat dinner in the village and go out after dark when the streets are empty and the stone glows under the lamps.

Best Value: Casa de Santiago, Albarracín
Casa de Santiago is one of Albarracín's oldest small hotels, a former mansion restored into about nine rooms with exposed wooden beams, tiled floors and a restaurant serving regional food. Rates usually start well under 100 euros.
It's small and family-run in feel, and the kind of place where dinner downstairs becomes one of the highlights of the trip.
Best for Families: Parador de Teruel
The Parador de Teruel is a 4-star hotel on the edge of the city, built in Mudéjar style to echo Teruel's famous towers. For families, being outside the centre is the advantage: easy parking, space, and a quick drive to Dinópolis and to the road for Albarracín.
You'll need a car to get into town, but with kids and a full day at the dinosaur park, that's no hardship. If you'd rather be in the centre of Teruel, the Sercotel Torico Plaza is a well-located alternative near the main square.
Most Unique: La Casona del Ajimez, Albarracín
La Casona del Ajimez is a renovated historic house tucked beneath the castle walls, next to the cathedral, with just six rooms, two of them with mezzanines that kids love. Each room is decorated differently, and there's a garden with valley views.
It feels like staying in someone's beautiful old village home, which is exactly what Albarracín is about.
