Live Well. Travel Smart. Invest in Paradise.

As a frequent traveler, I often use travel blogs as a resource to learn about the places I go before I get there. This blog is a way of sharing what I have learned so that others may do the same. I believe cultural immersion is the true treasure to traveling abroad and I consider myself a cultural chameleon. Like the old saying goes, "When in Rome do as the Romans do." At home, I am a foodie fanatic, gardener and nature seeker; I take these passions with me when I travel abroad. Here you will find travel tips, reviews, and recipes from my adventures. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy sharing them.  -Sherri

"Before the development of tourism, travel was conceived to be like study, and its fruits were considered to be the adornment of the mind and the formation of judgment."

About Travel-Casa

Travel-Casa was created for people who don’t just want to visit a place — they want to understand what it’s like to live there.

I write for slow travelers, families, and remote workers who are considering spending extended time abroad or making an international move. That means going beyond highlight reels and into the realities that actually matter: housing, transportation, seasons, language, culture, schools, costs, and day-to-day life.

Travel-Casa is not about rushing through destinations. It’s about choosing places intentionally — and learning enough to decide whether a place could truly feel like home, even temporarily.

About Me

I live in Spain with my family and write from the perspective of someone who has navigated slow travel, long stays, bureaucracy, housing realities, and cultural adjustment firsthand.

Over time, I realized that much of the information online about living abroad falls into two extremes:

  • overly romanticized travel content, or

  • dense legal and relocation guides that miss the human side of the experience.

Travel-Casa exists in the space between those two.

Here, I focus on:

  • Slow travel and long-term stays

  • Living abroad with children

  • Understanding regions, provinces, and towns — not just countries

  • Housing and rental realities

  • Public transportation, walkability, and daily logistics

  • Cultural integration, language learning, and expectations vs. reality

I’m especially interested in places outside the obvious hotspots — smaller cities, regional capitals, and well-connected towns that offer quality of life without displacing local communities or inflating housing markets.

Why Spain (and Europe)?

Spain, in particular, is one of the most diverse countries in Europe. Climate, culture, language, food, cost of living, and even daily schedules can change dramatically from one region to another.

Understanding Spain requires more than knowing where the beaches are.

That’s why Travel-Casa breaks things down step by step:

  • country → regions → autonomous communities → provinces → towns

  • and eventually, housing and long-term living considerations within each

This layered approach helps readers make informed decisions — whether they’re planning a few months abroad or exploring the idea of a permanent move.
