Where to Stay in Lanzarote: The Best Hotels for Papagayo, Families and Every Kind of Trip
Lanzarote is in our month-by-month series twice: in February for the Papagayo beaches, and in May as the best worldschooling island in the Canaries. Winter days here are usually warm and sunny, in the low 20s °C (low 70s °F), and the volcanic landscapes and César Manrique's art make it unlike any other island.
For a beach trip, Playa Blanca in the far south is the base. It sits right next to the Papagayo beaches, a string of golden coves inside a protected natural area, and it's quieter and more relaxed than the island's other resorts. Puerto del Carmen is livelier, with a long seafront and more restaurants. The north, around Arrieta and Haría, is greener and more local.
Here are the best places to stay in Lanzarote, chosen for different travelers and different priorities. Lanzarote is also one of the few places in Spain with a genuinely excellent Hyatt option, so points travelers have a real choice here.
Best Location: Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort
Princesa Yaiza is a 5-star resort on the beachfront in Playa Blanca, and it's the best-placed big hotel on the island for Papagayo, a short drive or a coastal walk away. It's built around suites, with six pools, a spa and a full kids' club and playground.
It works for couples and families alike, and Playa Blanca's promenade, restaurants and the ferry to Fuerteventura are all on your doorstep.

Best Value: Aqua Suites, Puerto del Carmen
Aqua Suites sits on the seafront in Puerto del Carmen and offers spacious suites, a lagoon-style pool and a half-board option, at rates well below the big resorts.
Puerto del Carmen is the island's liveliest resort town, with a long beach and plenty of restaurants, and it's central enough to reach Timanfaya, the Manrique sites and Papagayo by car.
Best for Families and Best for Points: Grand Hyatt Lanzarote Playa Dorada
This is the rare place in Spain where a Hyatt is also the right family pick. The Grand Hyatt Lanzarote Playa Dorada is a 5-star all-inclusive resort right on the beachfront in Playa Blanca, with an Adventure Club for kids, a Next Level Club for teens, family rooms and several pools, including one with water slides.
It's part of Hyatt's all-inclusive collection, so World of Hyatt members can earn and use points here, which on an all-inclusive family stay can stretch a long way. Papagayo is right down the coast.
Luxury (Adults Only): Secrets Lanzarote, Puerto Calero
For a couples' trip, Secrets in Puerto Calero is an adults-only resort in a quiet marina town between Puerto del Carmen and the south, with more than 300 rooms and suites and several restaurants.
It's also part of Hyatt's all-inclusive collection, so it's the points pick for travelers without kids. Puerto Calero's marina is one of the most polished corners of the island and the departure point for boat trips.
Most Unique: Eco Finca de Arrieta
In the green north of the island, Eco Finca de Arrieta is an eco-focused stay with yurts and villas, about 300 meters from the beach in the fishing village of Arrieta. It's family-friendly, sustainable and nothing like a resort.
It's the base for the Lanzarote most visitors miss: Jameos del Agua, the Cueva de los Verdes, the Mirador del Río and the palm valley of Haría are all close by. Papagayo is a longer drive from here, so it suits travelers splitting their stay between north and south.
