Where to Stay in the Priorat and Serra de Montsant in March: The Best Hotels for Hikers
The Serra de Montsant is our March pick for Hikers & Mountain Lovers. In spring the trails are green, the temperatures are made for walking, and the views from the cliffs reach across the vineyards of the Priorat, one of Spain's great wine regions. Add the cliff-top village of Siurana and you have one of the most rewarding hiking bases in Catalonia.
This is rural Catalonia, so hotels are small, independent and often family-run, and you'll want a car. The good news is that the best of them are genuinely special: places where the hiking starts at the door and dinner comes with wine made down the road.
Here are the best places to stay around the Montsant and Priorat in March, chosen for different travelers and different priorities.
Best Location: Hotel Siuranella, Siurana
Siurana is a tiny, very old village perched on a cliff edge above the Priorat, and Hotel Siuranella puts you inside it, a short walk from the castle ruins. For hikers and climbers that's the whole point: trails and some of Europe's best-known climbing crags start right from the village, and you have the place almost to yourself once the day visitors leave.
It's a small boutique hotel with individually decorated rooms, a fireplace in the lobby, a library, a terrace, an outdoor pool and a restaurant, Els Tallers, that guests praise as much as the views. Breakfast is included, and reviews rate it around 9 out of 10. Rooms are compact, so pack light.

Best Value: Hotel Sport, Falset
Falset is the capital of the Priorat, and Hotel Sport has been a family-run fixture there for more than 90 years. It's a 4-star with 28 rooms, a garden, a library and a fireplace, and a restaurant focused on local cooking and Catalan wines. Doubles start around €99 on weeknights, which is excellent value for the standard.
The hotel is set up for wine travelers: it arranges winery visits and nature routes and even offers wine therapy treatments. Falset is a practical base, with shops and restaurants, and a short drive to the Montsant trailheads and to Siurana.
Best for Families: Rent a Priorat Farmhouse
We'll be honest: the Priorat's best hotels are small and quiet, and several are adults-only, so they aren't built for children. For families, the better move here is a casa rural, a rented farmhouse or village house, often with a garden and a pool, in villages like Cornudella de Montsant, Falset or Porrera.
You get space, a kitchen, and the freedom to keep your own schedule, which matters on hiking days with small legs. Use the search below and filter for houses and apartments around the Montsant.
Luxury and Most Unique: Terra Dominicata, Escaladei
Terra Dominicata is the Priorat at its most beautiful. It's an adults-only boutique hotel at the foot of the Serra de Montsant in Escaladei, set on a former monastery estate with its own vineyards, olive trees, orchards and winery. Its 26 rooms are spread across two historic buildings, and because the original architecture was kept wherever possible, no two are alike.
Guests can tour the winery and taste the estate's wines, swim in the terrace pool, and eat at the on-site restaurant. Reviews rate it around 9.4 out of 10. After a day on the Montsant ridges, coming back here to a glass of wine made on the property is about as good as a hiking trip in Spain gets.
